HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (6/30/13) – On Sunday, June 30, a “large” field fire was reported to Central Dispatch in Madisonville.
Initial Fire units were dispatched to Frank Cox Road, where they found several acres of field property on fire. The smoke from the fire could be seen for miles, as far away as Muhlenberg County.
Once on the scene, firefighters found that the range of the fire was considerably more than they could handle with minimal units. Firefighters then contacted dispatch requesting numerous other units from Earlington, Manitou, Hanson and Grapevine.
The owner of the property arrived on the scene and informed firefighters that they did not have to extinguish the flames if they did not wish to. Firefighters informed him that it was not an approved fire, and that they had to extinguish.
After a battle with the flames for over an hour, firefighters eventually brought the fire under control.
