MPD and MFD Encourages Citizens to Run

9 11 heroesMADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/21/13) - The Madisonville Police and Madisonville Fire departments are planning to get on the move for the first, local 9/11 Heroes Run at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7. They are encouraging runners to pre-register for the event at www.911heroesrun.com.

Madisonville Police Department's Lt. Jason Lutz said those registering online can help the police department by entering it in the promotion code box.

The Travis Manion Foundation expects more than 50,000 Americans including 15,000 registered runners, to come out across the nation to run, volunteer, donate and cheer but most of all to honor the more than 9,000 men and women who gave their lives on 9/11 and since.

Large portions of the proceeds will stay in the community to support local veterans, families and first responders. The local race will donate to both the fire and police departments.

Registration costs for the 5K are $25 for individual; $80 for a family of four; and, $15 for a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk. Deadline for registration is Sept. 1. The opening ceremony begins at 7:30 p.m.
