MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/26/13) – On Thursday, July 25, SurfKY News reported on an accident involving a Madisonville Police car and an SUV just off Center Street on the Pennyrile Parkway exit ramp in Madisonville.
Upon further investigation of this collision, officers were responding to a complaint call of a subject operating a tan mercury who had turned into the path of traffic that was exiting on the northbound exit of ramp 42. Sgt. Ryan Clark, with the Madisonville Police Department, saw the vehicle traveling toward the oncoming traffic up the ramp and activated his emergency lights and siren. Clark was in the process of crossing traffic on East Center Street to stop the individual, who was later identified as Sharon Bethel, as she drove south up the northbound exit ramp.
According to police officials, Rocky Hicks, 56, of Muhlenberg County, KY, failed to yield to Clarks emergency vehicle and collided with the passenger side of the police cruiser, rending the vehicle inoperable.
Bethel continued southbound onto the Parkway, traveling south in the northbound lanes. Bethel was stopped by other officers just south of the northbound on-ramp near KY 2171.
Sgt. Clark sustained minor injuries in the accident.
