MADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/12/13) – The Habitat for Humanity of Hopkins County held a Dedication Service for two new family homes. Susan Garcia and Rachel Pierpont were welcomed and presented with the keys to their new homes.
Welcoming and introductions were made by Jeff Mayfield, Habitat Board of Directors President. “This was a coalition of a lot of hard work and months and months of preparations. We are excited about giving someone a new home… somebody a hands up.”
There was a scripture reading and prayer by Pastor Nathan Bruce of Earlington Assembly of God, along with the presentations of Bibles to the families.
The homes were built with money from the Kentucky Housing Corporation and made with a universal design. These homes are also built 20% above standard building code and energy sufficient.
“I’m just very blessed to be a candidate. It was a whole lot of work… blood, sweat and tears in both these houses,” said Homeowner Susan Garcia. “But it’s what you put in it. Put in your heart… you’re going to get your heart out of it. This was a great thing to be a part of and a great group of people.”
Homeowner, Rachel Pierpont said, “I want to thank each and every one who had a hand in the habitat community. Not only had it brought more friendships but also to be part of a great organization.”
The Habitat for Humanity will also be hosting “Raise the Roof,” an evening of fundraising for construction cost of raising the roof on our 63rd Habitat for Humanity house this Friday, August 16 at 7:00pm. This is a public event and everyone is welcome to attend.
