puzzle pieces 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/28/13) -- Puzzle Pieces, a program that meets the needs of children and adults with disabilities, has been named in the top four finalists in Owensboro’s Impact 100.
 
Puzzle Pieces currently services 61 individuals and are private-paid; funded mostly by donations. They offer after school, holiday, summer, adult day, and Saturday sessions.
 
“Our mission is to provide a social environment while teaching them the appropriate skills for everyday life,” Amanda Owen, Founder and Director of Puzzle Pieces, said.
 
Impact 100 is in its eighth year providing grants to projects in the Owensboro area, giving roughly $1.5 million to programs in need., according to Joy Allen, President. This year, the top four finalists will find out if they receive the grant money in October after Impact members visit each of their facilities and a dinner presentation is held. The top two finalists will win $100,000 in support for their program, but no one will go home empty handed; third and fourth place winners will receive $15,500.
 
If Puzzle Pieces receives the $100,000 grant, a new outdoor entrance, new surveillance equipment, and new computer systems for easier sign-in/sign-out will be purchased.
 
“Through that (the grant), we will be able to make the necessary improvements to our building to provide safety to the clients and staff,” Owen said.
 
Other finalists include the RiverPark Center, Owensboro Dance Theater and Lighthouse Counseling Services.
