HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (10/15/13) – At around 12:35 p.m. today, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, Manitou Fire Department received notice of a possible accident with injuries on Manitou Road.
Once SurfKY News Reporters were on the scene of the accident, it was found that an 85-year-old woman had been traveling down Manitou Road headed towards Nebo Road when, for unknown reasons, her vehicle exited the highway. The vehicle, a dark green Dodge Caravan, apparently then traveled down a ditch, striking multiple mailboxes, and then struck a culvert. The vehicle then crossed over a driveway, apparently lifting into the air, and struck a tree where it came to a final stop, partially suspended from a tree.
Manitou Fire Department, Nebo Fire Department and Med Center EMS arrived on the scene and attempted to remove the driver from the vehicle via the front driver's-side door. The door was jammed shut. The driver was removed through the rear window of the vehicle after numerous attempts to pull the door open.
According to Kentucky State Police officials on the scene, the driver was in much better condition than expected, though there were still obvious injuries.
Kentucky State Police will be providing further details regarding this accident later today and SurfKY News will keep you updated.
