we honor vetsMADISONVILLE, Ky. (10/28/13) — The 49th Veterans Day Parade, hosted by the American Legion Post 6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5480, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 3

Parade participants should line up at 12:30 p.m. at the Baptist Health parking lot and organizers are encouraging all veterans to take part.

“We are asking all veterans from the Korean Conflict and also all veterans, who received the Purple Heart, to contact Chairman Bruce Unland at the VFW Post so you can be recognized during the parade,” said Unland. “We would also like to extend an invitation to sit on the reviewing stand during the parade.”

This year's grand marshal is Army Lt. Col. Donald Laffoon of Madisonville. Laffoon entered service at age 18 in December 1943, and served for 28 years until August 1971. He saw combat during three  different wars — WWII in Germany, Korea in 1950 and Vietnam in 1969.

There will be trophies for the first, second and third place as well as the most patriotic. All entries must have a patriotic theme.

The theme for this year’s parade is “HONORING OUR VETERANS / SACRAFICE AND SERVICE.”

There is a chili supper being served at both the VFW Post 5480 and American Legion Post 6 after the parade starting at around 4:30 p.m.
