Traffic Shift in KY 56/KY 81 Roundabout Work Zone at Owensboro

ky trans roundabout 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (11/7/13) - A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a traffic shift at the KY 56/KY 81 Roundabout work zone on Friday, November 8, 2013.

Southbound and Northbound KY 81 traffic will be separated with construction of a new median as part of ongoing work to finish out connections to the existing roadway. This traffic spilt will allow for the completion of this final median and should minimize the need for additional traffic shifts in this work zone as work continues over the next month.

The new roundabout is located at KY 56 mile point 14.1 and KY 81 mile point 11.036 in Daviess County at the west edge of Owensboro.

Based on previous traffic counts, more than 13,000 vehicles travel through the roundabout in an average day.

A brief tutorial on tips for driving through a roundabout can be found at: http://youtu.be/RAimpULnp2o.

Completion of the roundabout is expected in early December. Timely traffic advisories for the 11 counties of KYTC Highway District 2 are available by going to www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict2. You do not have to be a Facebook member to access this page.
