Senator Rhoads Announces Legislative Retirement

rhoads 02 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (1/13/14) - State Sen. Jerry P. Rhoads, D-Madisonville, has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2014. Rhoads' announcement creates an open seat in Kentucky's 6th Senate District, comprising Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Ohio and Butler counties.

"Serving the people of the 6th District in the State Senate these past 12years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life," said Rhoads. "I will treasure the many friendships I have made throughout the counties I have represented in my three terms of service in the State Senate. After careful reflection, I have decided that with eight young, energetic grandchildren, it is time to step away from the hectic pace and demands of public service in order to spend more time with my family and pursue other life goals."

Rhoads will remain actively engaged in his Madisonville law practice with his brother and law partner, Tom Rhoads.

"I want to personally thank the citizens of the 6th District for entrusting in me the honor and responsibility of representing the Kentucky State Senate. I am proud of my record of leadership and accomplishment on their behalf. I have worked tirelessly to strengthen education, help workers' rights, working families and expanded economic opportunities for the next generation. Working with my colleagues in the Senate, House and the Executive Branch, I have also been able to help ensure that Kentucky coal, a vital industry for our region, will remain at the forefront of our Commonwealth's energy policy for decades to come.

"I am excited for what the future holds and will continue working to build a better, stronger community for our region," said Rhoads.
