MADISONVILLE, Ky. (2/13/14) — An honor that has been presented since 1945, Madisonville Lions Club has chosen its 2013 Man and Woman of the year recognizing them for their civic contributions to the community.

Hopkins County Jailer Joe Blue and Hopkins County Tourism and Convention Commission Executive Director Tricia Noel have been chosen for the honor.

The Lions listed their reasons for their choices in a press release:

Serving as the Hopkins County Jailer since 2005, Blue has played a positive role in impacting many lives in the community.

He currently serves as Vice President of the Kentucky Jailer’s Association and was named Jailer of the Year in 2012. He is a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the American Jail Association, American Corrections Association, and the National Sheriff’s Association. Blue was able to represent Hopkins County in participating in a focus group in Washington D.C., to discuss local concerns and issues related to jail programs in Kentucky.

Locally, Blue implemented many programs at the jail that benefits the community as a whole. He is noted for the garden project and apple orchard venture, that provides the jail with food while educating inmates. Blue as also fostered an atmosphere of services that encourages inmates to participate in community projects and has fulfilled programs within the jail to help educate, train and prepare inmates return to the community. Blue is also a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church.

Serving as the Executive Director of the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, Tricia Noel has played an active advocate for the Hopkins County community for years.

She is the past-president of the Madisonville Woman’s Club, director of the Home Tour fundraiser and has served on the Madisonville-Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Noel is a long-time member of the First Baptist Church, a member of the choir and hand bells group, and plays an active role in the Return to Bethlehem and in activities committees.

Currently Noel is the past president of Big Brothers/Big Sisters Board of Directors. She is on the America in Bloom steering committee. Tricia represents Hopkins County, serving as secretary of the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. Noel is a committed supporter of the local Madisonville Miners baseball team, formerly the Tradewater Pirates. She spends countless hours ensuring the success of programs such as the summer baseball league that not only brings people to the community but helps bring the community together.

This year’s ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 10 at the Baptist Health Tower.
