Fire Commission Establishes Emergency Number

ky fire commisionGREENVILLE, Ky. (02/25/14) – Prospective volunteer firefighters across Kentucky now have a directly line to information they need to begin serving in their communities.

The Kentucky Fire Commission has established (800) FIRELINE (347-35463).

“Volunteers are important to the Fire Commission and the fire service in general,” said Kentucky Fire Commission Executive Director Ronnie Day. “We need these folks on the front lines, helping to save lives.”

The 800 number will direct calls from all Kentucky area codes to the Kentucky State Fire Rescue Training - Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment & Retention Program.

Staff from the program will answer calls and gather information from prospective volunteers including: name, phone, e-mail, location, etc. The information will then be provided to the volunteer service closest to the prospective member.

Not only will the 800 number be a one-stop-shop recruiting tool for those interested in serving the Commonwealth, but it will also stream-line volunteer records.  

The Kentucky Fire Commission is committed to enhancing safety and education within the fire service for the citizens and industries within the Commonwealth through standardized special and technical education, training, communication, coordination and the distribution of funds to the agencies throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Since 1972 the mission of the Kentucky Fire Commission and the State Fire Rescue Training agencies has been to train and certify volunteer and career firefighters of Kentucky. In 1997 the Postsecondary Education Improvement Act was mandated bringing about the approval of an associate in applied science (AAS) degree in fire/rescue science technology. At that time the Kentucky Fire Commission was established within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System.
