FRANKFORT, Ky. (3/20/14) — The Kentucky State Senate adopted Senator Jerry P. Rhoads’ senate citation honoring the Hopkins County Central High School High Voltage Varsity Dance Team for their performance at the Kentucky Dance Coaches Organization competition.
The dance team captured top honors in the Hip Hop category, second place honors in the Pom category and winning the overall state grand champion trophy.
This marks the school’s sixth state championship title and first grand championship title.
In addition to the team’s achievements in the KDCO competition, they recently received third place honors in Hip Hop at the National Dance Alliance Competition in Orlando, Florida, marking it the fifth time since 2008 that the team has been among the top finishers in this challenging contest.
Senator Rhoads, D-Madisonville, the sponsor of the citation, told his colleagues on the Senate floor that it is very seldom that we have a competitive group achieving awards in national competitions.
“I am very proud of this fine group of young women and their coaches,” Senator Rhoads said. “Not only are these student athletes skilled dancers, but they are outstanding students who are going to be successful.”
“These are truly remarkable achievements,” he added. “I applaud them for the distinction they have brought to their school, to Madisonville, to Hopkins County, and to our great commonwealth.”
