'Fit Kids Summer Program' Planned; CCCC 5K Delayed

Central City CCCENTRAL CITY, Ky. (3/27/14) — A six-week "Fit Kids Summer Program" for Muhlenberg County middle school students will begin the first full week of summer break, according to Tammy Piper, the director of the Central City Convention Center.

"A grant from the Felix Martin Foundation will allow for 15 children to take advantage of the program free of charge," Piper said. "To check for eligibility call the convention center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning April 15. If you do not qualify for the scholarship you may register at a fee of $40 weekly. During the six-week program the activities will include nutrition education, exercise programs, swimming, bike riding, trips to Felix Martin ball fields, basketball, volleyball, dodge ball tournaments and many more activities. There will also be fun days in the outdoor pool. The program will run for six weeks, beginning the first full week after summer break begins."

Piper also noted that the benefit 5K Run/Walk for the family of the late Jeff Geary has been changed from March 29 to April 5 at 9 a.m. due to wet weather conditions predicted for this weekend.

Geary passed away from a sudden illness March 20. He was an employee of the city of Central City Maintenance Department.

Funds raised will go to help his family in paying medical and other expenses.
