MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/4/14) — In conjunction with Kentucky Arbor Day, the city of Madisonville and the Madisonville City Tree Board hosted the 2014 Arbor Day celebration 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 4 at the Historical Hopkins County Court House.
A Norway Spruce tree was donated by the Cardinal Garden Club that was planted for the celebration. The Kentucky Division of Forestry provided 100 seedling trees to those who attended the event.
“The Cardinal Club is responsible for bringing this Norway Spruce down from Pennsylvania,” said Mike Franklin. “This spot next to the old courthouse is a beautiful spot for the tree and what we plan to do is shut Court Street for the Christmas parade and have events go one around there. We are proud of our new Christmas tree and excited for the years to come.”Madisonville has earned the distinction of being a Tree City USA from the National Arbor Day Foundation.
