'Prom for a Purpose' for Adults to Benefit 4-H Backpack Program

MuhlenbergCounty Event 300CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (4/7/14) — The Prom for a Purpose began as a fun idea between friends that would help the Muhlenberg 4-H Food for Kids Backpack Program.

The fundraiser will be from 7 to 11 p.m. May 17 at the Central City Convention Center.

One of the volunteer organizers, Marla Laycock, told SurfKY News that she had thought about what a great night adults could have reliving their prom days.

"I discussed the idea with Tammy Piper, director of the Central City Convention Center," said Laycock. "Tammy said that she and others had discussed a similar type of event in the past but it never came full circle. This time we are determined to make it work for a great cause, the 4-H Back Pack Program."

The event is semi-formal, with a suit and tie requested for men.

"We're going to have the best time, and all for a great cause," Laycock said.

Entertainment will be provided by Wendell Miller's Sight and Sound and Sean Mooningham.

For more details, contact Tammy or Lindsay at the Central City Convention Center at (270) 757-1723, or call (270) 543-4224.

The Muhlenberg County 4-H Teen Club has focused on the "Food for Kids Backpack" program for more a decade. 4-H accepts donations to the program year round. Find out about this and other programs you can assist with at the UK Extension Office, 3690 State Route 1380, (off the 189 bypass in Central City).
