America in Bloom and Baptist Health Strive to ‘Reforest’ Madisonville

tree planting woman holdingMADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/9/14) — It’s that time of year again to beautify the community with America in Bloom and Baptist Health with “Reforesting Madisonville.”

America in Bloom and Baptist Health have partnered once again with a tree planting event and seedling giveaway, 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19 at Trover Wellness Park.

“The event was very successful last year, with a number of volunteers planting 25 container grown redbud trees along the park trail,” said forester Chris Oelschlager. “This year, we need help planting an additional 25 redbuds, as well as 10 new oak trees.”

This year, a variety of tree seedlings will be given away, including cherrybark oak, swamp chestnut oak, black walnut, bald cypress, pecan, hazelnut and roughleaf dogwood.

America in Bloom is a non-profit nationwide organization that promotes and teaches individuals by educating and encouraging the use of plants, trees flowers, and other environmental enhancements.

For more information, call the Kentucky Division of Forestry at (270) 824-7527.
