DAWSON SPRINGS, Ky. (4/13/14) — The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, fatal collision that occurred 6:45 p.m. Saturday, April 12 on Kentucky 109 in the city limits of Dawson Springs.
According to a KSP report, the preliminary investigation revealed that Starla Garwood, 37, of Dawson Springs, was operating a 1999 Toyota Solara northbound on Kentucky 109 while Emily Baird, 19, of Dawson Springs, was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu southbound on Kentucky 109. For unknown reasons, Garwood entered the southbound lane striking Baird in a head-on.
Garwood was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield. Baird was transported to Baptist Health in Madisonville via Med Center Ambulance for treatment to her injuries.The collision was investigated by Trooper Joseph Bartolotti. Sgt. Nick Rice, the Dawson Springs Police Department, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office, Dawson Springs Fire Rescue and Med Center Ambulance assisted at the scene.
