Earlington Traffic Stop Results in Meth Arrests

4 18-METH-ARRESTEARLINGTON, Ky. (4/18/14) — A traffic safety checkpoint netted two arrests by Kentucky State Police 9:17 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in Earlington.

According to a KSP report, Troopers Joseph Bartolotti, Cody Kromer and Jonathan Murphy were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on Kentucky 2171 in an effort to locate and remove impaired drivers from the road.

Shortly after the checkpoint began, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was observed driving carelessly while it approached the checkpoint. Upon troopers making contact with the driver, Stephanie Mclain, 39, of St. Charles, Trooper Bartolotti determined that she was operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs, and she was placed under arrest.

Upon a search of the vehicle, troopers located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, cash and counterfeit money. The passenger and owner of the vehicle, Nathan Nance, 36, of Madisonville, was also arrested. His 4-year-old son was also in the vehicle and was released to a family member.

Bartolotti charged Mclain with DUI, second offense with aggravating circumstances; trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, first offense/two grams meth; possession of drug paraphernalia; wanton endangerment, second degree; license not in possession; careless driving; criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree; and on the execution of a warrant for another agency.

Nance was charged with trafficking in a controlled substance, first degree, first offense/two grams meth; possession of drug paraphernalia; endangering the welfare of a minor; and criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree.

Both are being lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
