MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/30/14) — Exotic Florist & Gifts has been serving the Madisonville area since 1962, but in 1992 the shop became family operated by the Durban family.
Since then, they have been proudly committed to offering the finest floral arrangements and gifts packed with a friendly smile.
“We got started about 22 years in November,” said owner Maryann Durban. “We were looking for a business, and we went through a class at the college; and, then we found out a floral shop was for sale, and now here we are.”
Durban grew up surrounded by flowers and gardens, so it seemed natural that she would grow up to own her own floral shop one day.
“I have planted flowers and gardens since I could walk,” said Durban. “Both my grandparents had greenhouses. So, I have always loved flowers and gardening. Owning a floral shop isn’t anything like having a garden. But, I get to see flowers all the time.”
The shop gets most of its flowers from surrounding places such as Paducah, Hopkinsville, Louisville and Evansville, Ind.
“We thought about growing flowers from home, but we don’t,” said Durban. “You need a lot of space, equipment and time. So, we just buy them through different wholesalers.”
Durban would like the community to know that they are a full service florist, that wire flowers out and delivers.
“We got just about anything anybody would want,” said Durban. “We sell a lot of roses and lilies the most. But, we can customize anything. We offer arrangements for funerals, weddings, baby showers and so on.”
Exotic Florist & Gifts is located on 1909 S. Main St., and is open Monday through Saturday, closed Sundays. For more information visit, http://www.anexoticflorist.com/ or https://www.facebook.com/pages/Exotic-Florist-Gifts/274154217633.
