'America In Bloom' Committee to Vote on Community Champion Nominee

america bloom 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/1/14) — The "America in Bloom" John R. Holmes III Community Champion Award is an annual award given to an individual that "demonstrates a vision and selfless commitment to moving the community forward."

Madisonville's committee will soon choose their nominee.

According the America In Bloom national website, past winners exemplified community leadership, rallied citizens and volunteers to engage their city, and were overall champions for their towns. The Madisonville "America In Bloom" Committee threw around several prestigious names for this year's nominee at Wednesday's meeting.

The award was created in 2009 in memory of John R. Holmes who passed away unexpectedly. He was a late CEO of OFA, an association of Horticulture Professionals, and was "a true believer in the power of flowers and plants to change lives," according to the America In Bloom website.

The Madisonville committee will have a few months to choose a nominee; nominations are due by July 31.

SurfKY will continue to update you on the committee's decision-making process.
