SHMS Dance Cats Rip the Competition Apart

SHMS-Dance-Cats-2013-2014--South Hopkins Middle School Dance Cats

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/14/14) — The South Hopkins Middle School Dance Cats recently finished a successful season that included two Grand Champion awards and multiple first place honors.

The team won the Grand Champion award at WKAC for the fourth year in a row. They were also Grand Champions at the Valentine Classic, where they won first place in Large Middle School Pom and Hip Hop, Best Choreography and the Spirit Award. SHMS won first place in Hip Hop at JAMFest and won Best Choreography. They were runner-up in Pom and Hip Hop at the KDCO Region 2 competition, advancing to the state finals. At the KDCO State Competition, SHMS placed third in the state in Hip Hop and sixth in Pom.

The team includes eighth-graders Drew Herring and McKenzie Rodgers; seventh-graders Eryn Barnes, Emma O’Leary, Casey Crawford, Olivia Latham, Emma Harrison and Kaylin Stanley; and sixth-graders Abi Burgett, Abby Hall, Moriah Manning, Avery Whitehair, Madison Brooks, Amanda Jones and Makinzy Yates.

The team is coached by Whitney Perdue.
