HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (6/5/14) — The Madisonville Club presented five scholarships on Wednesday, June 4.

The process of selection used a “blind selection” process whereby the screening committee did not know the name of the applicant or other personal information.

Club president Frank Williams (left in photo) presented the checks at the regular club meeting. The recipients are, left to right, as follows:

The MNHHS-Male Achievement Scholarship ($500) went to Lucas Oakley. He plans to attend the University of Kentucky and major in civil engineering. At North, he played varsity soccer, was a member of the Key Club and FBLA.

The MNHHS-Female Achievement Scholarship ($500) was awarded to Sarah Love. She plans to attend University of Louisville as a political science major. At North, she was a member of the varsity swim team and Key Club. Sarah says she is an avid runner.

The MNHHS-Ernie Woodward Excellence Scholarship ($1,000) was presented to Mary-Margaret Gamblin. She plans to attend University of Kentucky and major in vocal performance. Her dream is to someday be an opera singer. At North, she was Drama Club president, member of the Key Club and FBLA. She was recently honored as the Distinguished Young Woman in Hopkins County. She also sings with the Community Chamber Singers.

The HCCHS-Female Achievement Scholarship ($500) was awarded to Claire Harralson. She plans to attend Madisonville Community College for one year and then attend Western Kentucky University to major in nursing and pursue a BS in nursing. She hopes to be an OB nurse. Claire was a member of the High Voltage Varsity Dance Team at Central and the National Honors Society. And she volunteers with Big Brother – Big Sister.

The HCCHS-Male Achievement Scholarship ($500) went to Christian Barnes. He plans to attend Murray State University and major in pre-med biology. The he plans to attend medical school at the University of Louisville. Christian was class president for three years at Central, co-president of National Honor Society and co- president of the pep club.
