nunsense-1GREENVILLE, Ky. (6/18/14) — With the Palace Theatre stage set prepared for what appears to be an eighth grade production of the musical 'Grease', you may think you have stumbled into the wrong theatre this weekend.

But that's just one of the many hilarious plot twists that have made the Off-Broadway musical comedy 'Nunsense' a worldwide smash. The Muhlenberg Community Theatre production of what is billed as a 'habit-forming musical comedy' premiers at the Palace Theatre this Friday, June 20 at 7 p.m.

The MCTI production, directed by David Probus, promises to be a merry old time starring Connie Thompson as Mother Superior Sister Mary Regina, Hope Mohon as Sister Mary Leo, Kristen Robertson appears as Sister Mary Annette, Mari Clayton plays Sister Robert Anne, Ami Clayton is cast as Sister Mary Hubert, and lest we forget, Sister Mary Amnesia is portrayed by Melanie Smith.

The production's band is made up of Mason Smith on piano, Darci Davis on drums, Ryan Jones plays bass guitar, Kirby Davis on saxophone, and Drake Skipworth on trumpet.

For those who may not be familiar with the plot of the award winning play, it conjures up a bit of 'Arsenic and Old Lace', as the Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook, Sister Julia, has accidentally sent fifty-two of the sisters to the great beyond after eating soup tainted with botulism. The plot revolves around the remaining few nuns dead set on raising burial funds with a variety show to cover the burial expenses before the health department discovers the cause of death.

Although the plot may sound a bit dark, the cast romps through numerous dance numbers, songs, and an hilarious plot that had audiences rolling in the aisles at the original Off-Broadway production for 38 weeks and nearly 3700 performances.

Performances will run at 7 p.m. nightly June 20, 21 and 27, with matinees at 2 p.m. on June 22, 28 and 29. Tickets are $5 and $10. Call (270) 338-7165 to reserve your seats.

But be forewarned.

Once you've enjoyed this side-splitting musical comedy once, it could be 'habit-forming.'
