Madisonville, Ky. (6/22/14) — According to a Kentucky State Police report, the subject of a Madisonville Police Department officer-involved shooting has been identified.

KSP was contacted at 8:15 p.m. with a request to investigate a shooting on Hall Street in Madisonville.

According to KSP's investigation, two MPD officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Douglas M. Seaton, 35, of Madisonville.

Seaton fled the traffic stop and a police pursuit ensued for approximately one mile. Seaton exited his vehicle, brandished a firearm and failed to comply with verbal commands as he approached officers, the report said.

MPD officers fired shots and struck Seaton, who was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield at 8:06 p.m. An autopsy was scheduled for today, Sunday, June 22 at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville.

According to MPD policy, both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.

Second story:

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/22/14) ― A police pursuit ending at 244 Hall Street Saturday left one dead.

According to Lt. Robert Carter of the Madisonville Police Department, the incident began around 8 p.m. when MPD officers noticed illegal activity. Officers initiated a traffic stop, at which point the perpetrator struck one officer with a vehicle.

A vehicle pursuit followed. Upon exiting the vehicle at a Hall Street home, the subject brandished a weapon and fired, Carter stated.

Further shots were fired, leaving one man dead. No law enforcement officers were seriously injured, according to Carter.

The victim's name has not been released, pending contact with next of kin.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/21/14) — Kentucky State Police are on the scene of a shooting death on Hall Street in Madisonville.

The identity of the victim is not yet known but officials say the man was shot by a Madisonville Police officer in the performance of duty. The officer's identity is not yet known. The victim allegedly used his vehicle to strike the police officer during a traffic stop.
