MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/7/14) — Madisonville Police responded to a complaint call regarding two small children left inside a vehicle at Walmart Friday, July 4.
According to a Madisonville Police report, officers observed two small children in a vehicle that had the windows cracked open.
The 9-year old male juvenile opened the door for officers and was also holding an female infant, just under 2 months old on his lap. Both children were sweating to the point the hair on their heads was wet.
The report said the little boy told police that his father, Kenneth Randolph, 32, White Plains, came out once to check on them, and that his mother, Rebecca Randolph, 26, Crofton, was inside shopping for groceries with their father.
A Walmart employee told police that she witnessed Kenneth coming out once to check on the children and that she had been keeping an eye on the vehicle. She also told police that Kenneth retrieved a bag from the vehicle and went back into the store, the report said.
The estimated time the children were left in the vehicle was between 10 to 15 minutes in temperatures of 76 degrees, prior to police arrival.Both parents were charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.
