front-photoUPDATED: MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/10/14) — Madisonville Firefighters battled a blaze at 500 S. Seminary St., Madisonville, that was called in at 9:47 a.m. Thursday, July 10, as neighbors, family and friends gathered around the elderly couple that resided there.

Smoke rolled from the rooftop at the home of J.P. and Sharon Duncan as the couple and their daughter, Nichole Woosley, watched helplessly from the curb. Neighbors and friends gathered around them offering assistance or just a hug around the neck.

According to Nichole, her mother was painting in the house while her father was at a doctor's appointment, when the fire broke out.

A MFD report released Friday, July 11 indicates the fire started on the rear deck/wall area of the house and traveled up the rear wall of the structure and entered the attic area. An external combustion source was the possible cause of the fire, according to MFD.
While battling the fire, two firefighters were removed from service after they suffered from heat stress. One was transported to Baptist Medical Center for observation.
