UPATE: Four-Vehicle Collision Snarls Traffic Intersection

IMG 6278UPDATE: MADISONVILLE, Ky. (7/15/14) ― A four-vehicle collision at approximately 2 p.m. Monday, July 14 at the intersection of East Center Street and Exit 42 off ramp near Denny's Restaurant clogged traffic but emergency workers were quick to the scene.

According to the Madisonville Police report, Samuel Goodman, 18, Madisonville was stopped in the left hand turning lane of the Pennyrile Parkway southbound Exit 42 ramp at the intersection of East Center Street, when Stefan Sorrel, 29, Georgetown, and passenger, Daniel Saunders, 57, Madisonville, stopped directly behind him.

As driver, Johnathan Dame, 29, Nebo, and passenger, Shannon Fox, 25, Dawson Springs, were  approaching Sorrel, Kenneth Benson, 50, Greenville, was coming down the ramp, and failed to stop behind Dame, which led Benson to strike Dame's  rear bumper.

The force from the impact pushed Dame into the left rear bumper of Sorrel causing him to turn over on his right side. As Sorrel was turning over, his vehicle struck Goodman on the right rear bumper, the report said.

Dame, Fox and Sorrel were all transported to Baptist Health emergency room for injuries. Dame and Fox were treated and have both been released from the hospital.

Benson was charged for no registration plates and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense. He is being lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
