(8/5/14) — The City of Madisonville, in partnership with Baptist Health and the Hopkins County Tourist and Convention Commission, announces that the final Friday Night Live of the 2014 season will fill downtown with classic cars, great local musical acts, and the 'Sweet Beats' a Beatles tribute band.

Continuing the tradition of giving local musicians a venue (10 of the 12 musical acts in 2014 are local) the Aug. 8 Friday Night Live will feature Rufus Baker, Mayor Jackson & Friends, and Spencer Holley.

The headliner for the evening will be “The Sweet Beats” a Beatle’s tribute band.

This month’s Friday Night Live event will see a return of the ever popular classic car cruise-in that is organized by the Show-N-Go Car Club. Other activities will include the United Way Campaign kick-off vendor booths, fire department kids’ obstacle course, Shriner cut-ups, and the Chamber of Commerce Beer Garden. All the activities take place around the courthouse square on Center, Court, and Union Streets.

Friday Night Live begins at 5 p.m. with vendors located on Center Street, the Fire Department parking lot and on the front lawn of the old Courthouse.

The schedule (subject to change) for the Aug. 8 event includes:

5 p.m.
VENDOR BOOTHS OPEN
CHAMBER BEER GARDEN OPENS
RUFUS BAKER ON STAGE

5:45 p.m.
UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICK-OFF

6 p.m.
CLASSIC CAR CRUISE-IN
MAYOR JACKSON AND FRIENDS ON STAGE

7 p.m.
SPENCER HOLLEY ON STAGE

8:15 p.m.
CLASSIC CAR SHOW WINNERS ANNOUNCED

8:30 p.m.
SWEET BEATS ON STAGE

10 p.m.
VENUE CLOSES

Jordan also stated, “Without our media and community partners the event could not be a success. These partnerships allow for the promotion of Friday Night Live throughout the region. The media and community partners that have signed on for the 2014 FNL series include - the Messenger, ESPN Radio 1310 AM, 106.9 FM WTTL, Howdy 97.7, Power Rock 93.9 WKTG, WFMW, SurfKY Newsgroup, the Glema Mahr Center, the Chamber of Commerce and Hampton Inn & Suites.”

In order to facilitate preparation for the event, several downtown streets will close. All vehicles will need to be moved from these streets by the closing time listed.

Those street closings include:

  • Parking lot next to Police Department – 6 a.m. until Approximately 11 p.m.

  • East Center (from Main to Franklin) – 2:30 p.m. until Approximately 11 p.m.

  • Union Street (Behind Courthouse) – 2:30 p.m. until Approximately 11 p.m.

  • Court Street – 3 p.m. until Approximately 11 p.m.

  • Parking lot between Fire Department and Hopkins County Clerk’s office – 4 p.m. - Approximately 11 p.m.

In case of inclement weather the event will move to the Ballard Convention Center.
