EARLINGTON, Ky. (3/14/13) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that Earlington Fire Department in Hopkins County has received a $392,909 Operations and Safety funding grant under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“Firefighting grants help ensure that our first responders have the resources they need to serve our communities,” stated Whitfield. “I congratulate Earlington Fire Department for receiving this award.”
The purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) organizations that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel. Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.
