Library Silent Auction Bidding for Vacation Tickets and Much More

auction1 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/31/13) – The Hopkins County/Madisonville Public Library is hosting their eighth annual Silent Auction starting Monday, April 1. Bidding begins at 10 a.m. on Monday and will continue through April 26 at 7 p.m. All of the proceeds raised from the auction are set to benefit the library renovation project at the former Save-A-Lot building on E. Center St. where construction is underway to prepare for the move.

The auction will be taking place in the Parkway Plaza Mall at the former Shoe Sensation space next to Regis Salon. The room is already filled with new merchandise that has been donated or purchased with the budgeted funds for the auction, consisting of games, jewelry, arts, crafts, lawn furniture, children’s outdoor toys, furniture, tents, art, frames, books and much more. There is a wall in the room lined with tickets for complimentary services from local businesses and various corporations that are not local.

There are tickets for a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game and tickets donated from Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno, Nevada for two night room stays. There are tickets for complimentary haircuts, oil changes, hotel stays and wide variety of services. Independent consultants and vendors have donated many items for the auction, including 31 purse line and Tupperware. There are over 100 children’s books for bid.

The silent auction will operate as follows: Each bidder will initially be given a bid ticket number that they will keep through the whole auction. They enter all of their contact information on their bid number ticket. Each piece of merchandise has a separate bid ticket in which a line for each bidder is given in order to outbid the previous bidder. On the last evening of bidding, refreshments will be served as the bidding finals. The following day the tickets will all be organized, and the tech will call to inform each person of their win.

Library Technician, Sharon Gibbs, who has worked for the library for 15 years, began this auction eight years ago as part of their fundraising efforts. This year she is being assisted by Bookmobile Librarian Shanna Turner. Gibbs is especially pleased with this year’s merchandise and has set a faithful goal for the auction at $15,000. She gave a brief history of the auctions progression and was sure to give special thanks to the businesses who donated their services and merchandise and the community who participates in the bidding every year. She said, “…without them, we wouldn’t be able to do any of this.”

There is sure to be something for everyone at the auction and all are invited to come and browse or bid.

If you are interested in donating new or very gently used merchandise for bid at the auction, you may contact Gibbs at (270) 825-2777.
