HCCHS Trio Talent Search Participants Travel to Austin Peay

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (5/6/13) – On Tuesday, April 23rd, Hopkins County Central High School TRIO Talent Search participants toured Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee. Upon arrival to APSU, the students attended an admission session where they learned about various aspects of the university, including housing, meal plans, and student organizations. The students also learned about two postsecondary TRIO programs offered at APSU: Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) and Student Support Services (SSS).

The Madisonville Community College TRiO program serves Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Crittenden counties. J’Nora Anderson is the TRiO Talent Search advisor at Hopkins County Central who arranged this college visit for the participants. Other TRIO Talent Search staff includes Anna Leasure, Director, Wes Ausenbaugh, Corey Downey, Advisors, and Marcia Evans, Administrative Advisor. Offices are located in the John H. Gray Building on the Madisonville Community College North Campus.
 
Once on the tour, the students received an “up close and personal” view of the APSU campus. This included visits to the Foy Athletic Center and the newly-built student housing complex, which included a tour of a typical two-person dorm room. The group also visited various classroom buildings on campus, including the Morgan University Center and the science building. This college visit and other TRIO Talent Search services provide participants with information to assist participants in making a wise choice for their college studies that best fits their academic interests and personal needs.
