Owensboro Fire Department to Begin Annual Hydrant Testing

ofd 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (04/03/2013) – The Owensboro Fire Department will start its annual fire hydrant flow testing and inspection program this month. This is a very important piece of the emergency preparedness program within the city, and the Owensboro Fire Department works very closely with Owensboro Municipal Utilities water crews to make sure our water system meets the needs of community emergency services.

This testing is also vital to maintaining our strong ISO rating and helping keep insurance rates low.

The Owensboro Fire Department will flow test nearly 1,000 hydrants annually, and such testing typically occurs on Mondays. Officials ask that citizens keep the safety of firefighters in mind when they are in the area. Also, officials ask that motorists to avoid driving through the high pressure flowing water near the hydrant during the testing.
