Public Tips Lead to Breakthrough in Theft Case

arrested walmartMADISONVILLE, KY (12/14/11)—On Monday, December 12th, Detective Jonathan Murphy of the Madisonville Police Department requested assistance from the public in locating two subjects involved with electronics thefts at Madisonville’s Wal-Mart location.

Following Det. Murphy’s request to the public via SurfKY News—which can be found by clicking here—the Madisonville Police Department received valuable tips that enabled the department to positively identify both subjects.

Soon after receiving these tips, members of the MPD arrested current Madisonville resident, Rodger Brown, 50 (see main picture), on one count of Theft by Unlawful Taking/Shoplifting (Under $10,000). What’s more, Brown was charged with other crimes unrelated to the thefts at the time of his arrest, including Non-Payment of Fines, Failure to Appear, and an Out-of-County Warrant (Christian County).

While Det. Murphy says that the female suspect involved in this case has been identified, he notes that members of the MPD are currently searching for her whereabouts.

In total, the incidents (which took place on December 6th and 10th) included the thefts of three different kinds of in-home game consoles—a Nintendo WII, an X-BOX 360 “Kinect Bundle,” and a PlayStation 3 “Move Bundle.” At this time, the items have yet to be recovered.

However, of Brown’s arrest, as well as the identification of the female subject, Det. Murphy states that, “We couldn’t have done this without the help of SurfKY News and its readers. We thank those who called in the tips as they were crucial in identifying the subjects.”

With this in mind, the public is reminded of their importance in the scheme of our community’s safety. Those with tips regarding suspicious or criminal activities are encouraged to contact local law enforcement immediately. As always, anonymous calls are welcomed.
