Building engineers will be on the scene to determine if the upper floor of the structure damaged by an early morning fire can be braced and repaired or if the upper walls have to be knocked down. A decision will be made later today.

 

Traffic is being rerouted onto Jefferson Street (Kentucky 139). Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

The fire's origin is unknown at this time.

CADIZ, KY (3/8/12) - Main Street in downtown Cadiz is closed from Marion Street to Madison Street (two blocks) while Cadiz firefighters continue to extinguish a fire in the historic district.

Around 2 a.m., a passerby noticed flames coming from the roof of the building at 44 Main Street and 46 Main Street. The buildings house Impressions Hair Salon, Rabbit Hole Cafe, and Oh My! Antiques. There are also apartments above the businesses. No one was injured and the residents of the apartments made it out safely.

Three other fire departments assisted the Cadiz Fire Department at the scene. No other adjacent buildings appear to be damaged. The buildings are nearly 110 years old.

Traffic is being rerouted onto Jefferson Street (Kentucky 139). Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area.

The fire's origin is unknown at this time.
