clickit ticket 300CADIZ, KY (5/21/12) - The Cadiz Police Department will be participating in the national Click It or Ticket mobilization from May 21-June 3. The annual safety campaign is focused on getting more drivers to buckle up every time they get into a vehicle.

During 2011, there were 721 highway fatalities in Kentucky. Of those fatalities, 576 individuals were motor vehicle occupants and 338 (58.7%) were not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Studies show approximately half of these lives could have been saved if they had been wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

While the Cadiz Police Department has seen the total number of crashes level off compared to past years, the number of injury crashes in 2012 is on pace to surpass 2011. The CPD will increase their patrols in areas of the city where the highest number of crashes and speed-related complaints occur.

The locations include:

• Main Street
• U.S. 68
• Lafayette Street
• West End Street
• Jefferson Street
• Wharton Road
• Glendale Drive
• East Noel Drive
• Cunningham Avenue

The Cadiz Police Department encourages everyone to abide by the posted speed limit and buckle up.
