Cadiz Police Awarded Grants for Body Armor

CADIZ POLICE DEPT 300CADIZ, KY (10/24/12) – The Cadiz Police Department has been awarded two grants totaling $8,550 to purchase new body armor vests.

CPD Chief Hollis Alexander said the grant will allow the department to equip every officer with a new body armor vest.

“It’s been a while since our department had new body armor, and this grant will allow us to purchase new vests for each officer,” said CPD Chief Hollis Alexander. “Most of the armor being worn by our officers is approaching the end of their guaranteed shelf life, and this grant allows us to purchase new ones.”

The Kentucky Office of Homeland Security awarded the CPD $6,050 for the purchase of the body armor. That, along with a $2,500 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Bulletproof Vest Partnership, will allow for the purchase of 11 new ballistic vests. Chief Alexander said the department expects to have the officers equipped with the new armor in four to six weeks.

The Cadiz Police Department has also received an $18,133 grant award from the OHS to purchase new mobile data computers. Recently, the department received a $9,300 grant from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety to continue their successful traffic safety program. In all, the CPD has been awarded nearly $36,000 in state and federal grant money this fiscal year.
