South Marshall Middle Takes District 4 Governor’s Cup Championship

gov cup 300MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (1/31/13) – The District 4 Governor’s Cup Academic Championship was held at South Marshall Middle on Saturday, Jan. 19th. SMMS took home the crown as overall District 4 Team Champions. South Marshall took team honors by scoring 51 points. North Marshall Middle took second place with 46 points, Livingston Co. Middle took third with 10 points and Benton finished in fourth with 8 points. Points are awarded in Governor’s Cup by doing well in events such as Quick Recall, Future Problem Solving, Composition, and Core Content Tests.
 
In Quick Recall, South finished first and North took second place. In Future Problem Solving, South once again took home first place honors.
 
In the testing portion of Governor’s Cup, many Marshall County students placed in the top 5 of various tests. In Math, the following students placed: NMMS Taylor Young (1), SMMS Jase Baker (2), SMMS Ben Samson (3), NMMS Samyuth Pinnegar (4), and SMMS Evan Dotson (5).
 
In the Science Assessment, NMMS Taylor Young placed first, NMMS Conrad Cash placed second, SMMS Jarrett Radcliffe placed third, with Benton Middle’s Isaac Bayer and Jackson Chumbler finishing fourth and fifth.
 
In Composition, the following students placed: NMMS Briley Chambers (1), NMMS Grace Ellegood (2), SMMS Caitlin Hudson (3), NMMS Matthew Ray (4), BMS’ Isaac Bayer and Ellison Young tied for 5th.
 
The Social Studies Assessment saw NMMS’ Conrad Cash finish first. SMMS Jarrett Radcliffe finished second, SMMS Dalton York finished third, SMMS Ben Samson finished fourth, and NMMS Nolan Yates finished fifth.
 
In the area of Language Arts, SMMS Cailee Davis took home first place honors. NMMS Grace Ellegood finished second, SMMS Caitlin Hudson finished third, and NMMS Shelton Owen finished fifth.
 
In Arts and Humanities, SMMS Alex Chapman finished second. BMS Mallory Harrington finished third, NMMS Cole Maxlow finished fourth, and SMMS Dakota Hicks finished fifth.
 
All the students who placed in the top 5 in testing will move on to the Regional Governor’s Cup which will be held at North Marshall Middle on Saturday, Feb 2nd.
