OWENSBORO, KY (6/3/13) – Theatre Workshop of Owensboro is preparing for the final show of its 2012-13 seasons with TWO’s rendition of “Man of La Mancha”, opening June 7th.

“Man of La Mancha” tells the story of Alonso Quijana, an elderly gentleman who has read so many books about chivalry that he loses his mind, and sets forth on a quest as a knight-errant with his squire, Sancho.

“It is a show that I have wanted to direct for a very long time,” said TWO Director Kelley Elder. “TWO's summer musical for the last several years has typically been one of the big classic musicals with kids. When I submitted a proposal for "Man of La Mancha" it is a bit of a departure for TWO. However, having had a great success with "Sweeny Todd" a couple of years ago, it is apparent that our audience is open to more serious musicals.”

This year’s performance hosts a cast from ranging from ages fourteen to around sixty, with experience levels ranging from "new to the stage" to "seasoned veteran".

“I have worked with about half the cast before in other productions,” said Elder. “Tan Mayhall (Don Quixote) and George Fleming (Sancho) were both in "A Few Good Men" two years ago (as well as numerous other productions). Kathryn Patton (Dulcinea) has lots of experience on stage but only recently returned to Owensboro after a number of years away. David Roberson is a familiar face to Owensboro theater goers. This has been a very talented and enthusiastic cast to work with.”

"Man of La Mancha" won five Tony Awards the year it opened, including "Best New Musical" and ran for over 1,400 performances in its original run. It has been revived twice on Broadway. The song "The Impossible Dream" is one of the best known songs from the show, if not in theatre as a whole. The movie version of the stage musical starred Peter O'Toole and Sophia Loren.

Man of La Mancha opens on Friday, June 7 and runs until June 16. Tickets may be purchased by calling the TWO box office at 270-683-5333.
