LEXINGTON, Ky. (6/17/13) – Planes and aviators of the US Navy’s VFA-32 Swordsmen are visiting the Aviation Museum of Kentucky June 21-23 at Blue Grass Airport in Lexington.

Current mission details have the aircraft arriving on Friday, June 21. On Saturday, June 22, the aircraft will be available for viewing by museum visitors on the ramp. The Navy pilots will be available to meet museum guests and take questions, contingent upon the weather and scheduling. Departure is scheduled for Sunday June 23.

VFA-32, a naval fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, is currently in training for deployment later in 2013. The squadron has operated from the US Navy nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman during previous deployments. The aircraft and pilots flying into LEX are using the visit as part of their training activities. The squadron currently flies the F-18 Hornet, the primary fighter and attack plane of the US Navy. As many as two Hornets may fly on the mission to visit Lexington.

“The museum is honored to host a visit by the Swordmen,” said Gerry van der Meer, president of the Aviation Museum of Kentucky. “The squadron and the museum have a long standing relationship, and one of its retired F-14 fighters is in display. It’s special when VFA-32 flies into Lexington.”
