Daviess County School District Gearing Up for ‘High Attendance Day’

dcps2 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/11/13) – The Daviess County Public Schools district is participating in a statewide focus on school attendance, which will culminate with “High Attendance Day” on Wednesday, Sept. 18. The campaign is sponsored by the Kentucky Directors of Pupil Personnel.

Across the state, schools achieving the highest percentage of attendance will be recognized in six divisions – elementary, middle and high schools, divided by enrollment (249 and fewer; 250 and more). First-place winners will receive $500 and regional winners will be awarded a certificate of achievement.

Windy Kretman, DCPS director of student services, said good attendance is a key element in a child’s academic success.

“We have great expectations for student success, and the first step to success is just simply being in attendance,” he said. “It’s so important for kids to be in school every day, so they can establish a strong foundation of knowledge on which to build year after year.”

In conjunction with the event, each school is hosting a series of activities to encourage students to attend.
