CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (3/3/14) — After sitting empty for well over a year, it appears the huge, collapsing building located at 302 South Second Street in Central City will soon be razed.
Ponderosa Steakhouse thrived for decades on the large lot a mile from the Western Kentucky Parkway.
In an email received Feb. 26, the RST LLC spokesperson told SurfKY News the property was leased to an area Ponderosa franchise owner, and was given approval "to get bids on tearing down the building".
Although no timetable was given regarding the exact date of the razing of the lot, Central City Mayor Barry Shaver said in a statement to SurfKY News that he feels this is good news.
"We are happy to hear that this progress has been made," Shaver said. "We look forward to seeing this prominent location in our town cleaned up, and hopefully transformed into a thriving business once again."
Shaver noted that total Central City restaurant revenues are consistently in the neighborhood of $1 million a month.
"We hope that this fact, along with the location of this prime real estate, will attract someone to this location sooner rather than later," Shaver said. The spokesperson for RST LLC said the long delay in beginning the clean-up of the lot was out of the company's control due to litigation that did not involve RST LLC.
