BiplanePOWDERLY, Ky. (6/5/14) — The sky is the limit at Muhlenberg County Airport this Saturday, June 7 with the Wings and Wheels Air Show.

Anyone can take a plane ride for $25.

“Airplane rides will be available from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. or until the air show starts,” said Danny Walker, chairman of the airport board. “Once it starts, the runway will be closed. This is a great time for people, who have never flown, to ride in a plane."

Walker said the air show's events will start with registration 8 a.m. for Wings and Wheels participants. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., visitors can walk around and look at the cars and planes that will be on display.

At 12 p.m., drawings will be held to give out prizes for the show, participants in the show get free entries but the public must buy tickets if they wish to take a chance on winning a prize.

At 1 p.m., the public will be given an opportunity to watch local remote-controlled airplane enthusiasts show off their skills at flying model planes.

At 2 p.m., the air show begins with flights by two biplanes, and the public will have the chance to see a T6 military trainer in action, which will be followed by a comedy plane routine.

Concessions will be offered by the Muhlenberg County Band Boosters.

Walker said it's not too late to enter the show.

"If you want, you can enter a riding lawn mower and just sit around and talk,” he said. “The registration fee is only $10 and for that you receive a dash plaque, a meal and a ticket to be eligible for prize drawings. The money raised goes to the EAA Chapter 1184 and is used to fund a scholarship program."

The event is free and open to the public.
