MURRAY, Ky. (7/18/14) — Dr. Ghanshyam Shastri, pulmonologist, has joined the medical staff at Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
Shastri, who is board-certified in Internal Medicine, recently completed a three-year fellowship training in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine from SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Prior to that, he completed a three-year internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Cooper University Medical Hospital at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in Camden, New Jersey and obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Grant Medical College & Sir JJ Group of Hospitals in Mumbai, India.
Before starting his internship, Shastri spent several years working as an Assistant Doctor and Resident Doctor in India and New Jersey, managing and treating primary care clinic, hospital and ICU patients and interpreting EKGs, Nuclear Stress tests, Echocardiograms and Carotid ultrasounds. His special interests include severe sepsis and septic shock, interstitial lung diseases, asthma and COPD.
Shastri offers pulmonology care, also known as respiratory medicine, to patients in the region. This involves complex diseases of the lungs and bronchial tubes, such as asthma, emphysema or pneumonia.
“Pulmonology is an important service line to have here at MCCH and Dr. Shastri is a good fit for the office. He brings a wealth of training and will help our region breathe easier,” said Jerry Penner, MCCH CEO.
Outside of work, Shastri enjoys playing outdoor sports such as cricket and tennis, listening to music, drawing and painting. He and his wife, Parul, recently moved to Murray with their 2 year-old daughter.
