A tribute to Lawton will be held at this year's Gospelfest. CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (7/31/14) — Thousands of music lovers will get an early start on the Labor Day weekend with Gospelfest in downtown Central City.

The event, which has grown bigger each year, will feature a galaxy of gospel stars, including Jason Crabb, Adam Crabb, Jeff and Sherri Easter, the Bowling Family, True Light and the Badgett Playhouse.

Although admission is free, event sponsor First National Bank, is helping raise money for the Feed Our Hungry Children program with Gospelfest T-shirts available at all Muhlenberg County FNB locations with each donation of five canned food goods. Feed Our Hungry Children is coordinated by the Greenville First Baptist Church.

Lanie Gardner, acting President and CEO of FNB told SurfKY News that T-shirts are going fast, with individuals and even businesses donating food items to help the needy.

"Part of First National Bank's mission is to help feed hungry in Muhlenberg County," Gardner said. "Last year, we started the concert t-shirt giveaway and it went over so well we decided to do it again. This year, area businesses have sent in bulk orders so we have entire companies that are helping out."

Gardner noted that there will be a special reading at 5:30 p.m. by Jason Crabb from one of his many childrens books, "Jesus Plus You Equals Two."

"We're also very excited to have the Badgett Playhouse singers performing," Gardner said. "This is a rare area appearance for this talented group, and they will also be sharing details about their outreach mission to Guatemala."

Gardner said there will be a special tribute to Robert Lawton, who passed away earlier this month. Lawton was a director of First National Bank beginning in 1952 and served as the bank's chairman of the board since 1981.
