Murray-Calloway County Hospital Hosting Events in August

General Events orange 300MURRAY, Ky. (8/2/14) — Staff at Murray-Calloway County Hospital and the Center for Health and Wellness will be offering educational health promotion events during the month of August to community members, Wellness Center members and MCCH employees.

An AARP Safe Driving Class will be held from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Kentucky insurances must offer a discount to those who complete the class. Pre-registration is required and the class size is limited. For more information on cost and age requirements or to register, call (270) 762-1348 or come to the front desk at the Center for Health and Wellness.

Look Good…Feel Better, A free, non-medical, brand-neutral national public service program to help women offset appearance-related changes from cancer treatments, will be held from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the Center for Health and Wellness. Plan to Be Smoke Free with Jamie Smith of the Kentucky Cancer Program from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18 at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Smith will be presenting a free session to teach people how to be smoke free. The class will address addiction, behaviors and available resources, and will help smokers develop a quit plan. All tobacco users and non-tobacco users who would like to learn more are welcome. Pre-registration is required! For more information or to register, call Jamie Smith at (270) 442-1310

A free nutrition education event titled “Fish Oil 101” will be held from 9-9:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 22 in the Center for Health and Wellness. We’ve all heard about the miracles of taking fish oil but how do we know which ones to choose and how much to take? Join Rebecca Wright, Registered Dietitian, for a discussion on what is best for your body when it comes to taking fish oil supplements.

Free health screenings will be offered from 6-11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 27 at the MCCH Center for Health and Wellness. Screenings offered will include blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference, osteoporosis heel scan and blood sugar (finger stick). To schedule an appointment, call (270) 762-1348.
