Central City Fires

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (7/31/14) — Within the past two weeks, Central City has experienced two fires on the same street — one fire at a local business, and one at a house that has been vacant for the past two years.

The first fire at 127 First Street involved a seven-bedroom home.  Although the fire department was able to extinguish the blaze quickly, the house suffered major fire damage.

Central City Fire Chief Ricky King said the cause of the fire was easily determined.

"It was pretty clear the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring as it was simple to trace the source of the fire," said King.

The second fire, which was at Cinema 4, remains under investigation.

“They are simply not sure how the fire started, where it started,"  said King. “Anytime a fire occurs in a business, the fire must be treated as if it was suspicious in that an investigation must be started, and evidence must be collected.  This is simply policy due to requirements of various regulations.  This is true even if it is clear what caused the fire. For example, if there is a trash can fire at a church, the Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms must be called in due to a law, which states that all church fires must be investigated by the ATF."

The Towne Cinema fire started in an upstairs projection room and caused very little damage, said King.

The theater operated during normal business hours after the fire.
