CADIZ, Ky. (8/24/14) — On Aug. 23, Trooper Michael Robichaud responded to the 9 mile marker, on KY 164, near Linton, for a one vehicle accident. Trooper Robichaud arrived on the scene and located a black, Chevrolet Equinox off the right shoulder of the road and down an embankment. The vehicle had struck a utility pole, knocking it down. There was no one in or around the vehicle upon the Troopers arrival.
Some time before the arrival of emergency personnel, a gray Nissan pickup, driven by John Mitchell, of Cadiz, Ky., was headed west on KY 164 and became entangled in the downed power lines. Mitchell was distracted by the accident and became trapped in his vehicle, once he came to a stop, in the roadway. Mitchell’s vehicle was freed by the Pennyrile Electric Company and suffered only minor damage.
Paul Erexson was located walking a short distance away by The State Police and after a short investigation, it was determined that he was the operator of the Equinox.
Erexson was intoxicated and was arrested for the following charges: DUI first offense (aggravated circumstances), operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, failure to produce an insurance card, and possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle. No one was injured as a result of either incident. Erexson was lodged in the Christian County Jail. The investigation continues, by Trooper Robichaud. The Kentucky State Police was assisted by the Trigg County Fire-Rescue Squad, Trigg County Sheriff’s office.
