cadizpolicereportCADIZ, Ky. (4/9/13) – The Cadiz Police Department has served nine arrest warrants in the past 11 days in an effort to prevent future crimes from occurring. The warrants covered charges ranging from failure to appear in court or pay fines to failure to pay child support. In addition, two other individuals were located who were wanted on out of state warrants, but that state chose not to extradite them from Kentucky.

"Statistics show that the longer wanted people are roaming the streets, crimes are more likely to occur," said Scott Brown, Public Information Officer.

Since the Commonwealth of Kentucky began using the computer based e-warrant program last year, the Cadiz Police Department has taken an aggressive approach to serving criminal summonses and arrest warrants. Last year, Cadiz Police served 71 arrest warrants. Already in 2013, CPD has served 25 warrants and 23 criminal summonses.

In addition, the department has begun to cross-check the warrant list with jail web sites in Kentucky and other states in hopes of locating fugitives who may be incarcerated elsewhere.

The department has also identified as many as a dozen deceased people who were showing to have an active warrant or summons. The county attorney's office in those locations have been notified and in many cases, the warrants removed from the e-warrant system.

"Right now, the number of active warrants and summonses in the e-warrant system for Trigg County is the lowest since it went online two years ago," Officer Brown said.
