Trigg County Student Selected for First Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs

gov school ent 300TRIGG COUNTY, Ky. (4/19/13) – Trigg County High School 10th grader David Morgan has been selected to attend the Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs. This is the first year for the three-week residential summer program focused on innovation and entrepreneurship. Only 50 Kentucky students were chosen to participate.

Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs will be held at Georgetown College in June. During the program students take an idea and utilize science, technology, engineering, art, math and business skills to turn it into a product or service and develop a business model around it. The program will teach students critical life and work skills of problem solving, teamwork and social responsibility.

gov david Morgan“We are really excited that David Morgan will represent Trigg County in the first-ever Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs,” said Travis Hamby, superintendent of Trigg County Public Schools. “We saw great potential for this program when it was announced, and we were fortunate to have a representative come and speak to our students and parents about it in November.”

David Morgan is the son of Tim and Audrey Morgan. He is a member of the Technology Student Association and Beta Club and plans to pursue a career in civil engineering.

“We know how important innovation and entrepreneurship are in today’s competitive business environment,” said Shannon Burcham, Trigg County High School Principal. “In order to be successful in their future careers, students will need to be able to problem solve and work effectively within a team. David will have a great opportunity to become immersed in an innovative learning environment while at GSE.”

The Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs was modeled after the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program and is free to participants. It is believed to be the only program of its kind in the United States. All Kentucky students in grades 9 – 11 were eligible to apply.
