Elementary School Talent Show

talent 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/1/13) –The Hopkins Co. Schools Talent Show Series: District Competition 2013 hosted the elementary school portion of the series last night at the Glema Mahr Center for the Arts at the Madisonville Community College campus.
 
The event was sponsored by Madisonville Community College Lions Club, Ameriprise Financial, Kroger, Donald and Mary Susan Fishman, and MultiCare Eye Clinic. Special thanks was granted to Brad Downall, Rob Blumrick, Domino’s Pizza, Trio SSS, GMCA Volunteers, and John Charbonneau.
 
The talent coordination was provided by Hopkins County Schools’ district services for Gifted and Talented District Coordinator, Jason Clark. The Masters of Ceremonies were students Ethan Scarbrough and Sean Radford.

The talent show kicked off at 7 p.m. showcasing the first ten performers:
•Emmaleigh Crook, Kaylee O’Leary, Caroline Rogers and Avery Whitehair (Southside)—Dance
•Katelyn Cavanaugh and Olivia Hulsey (Southside)—Voice
•Hayley Hart (West Hopkins) – Voice
•Olivia Devine and Kylee Coyle (Hanson)—Dance
•Anastasia Duncan, Haley Ray and Hannah Ray (Grapevine)—Voice
•Cole Duvall (Jesse Stuart)—Drums
•Tannor Schindler (West Broadway)—Voice
•Jakob Gaskins (Earlington)—Voice
•Aiden Ipox and Trevor Hardy (Southside)—Mime/Comedy
•Blade Byrum (Southside)—Drums

The competition took a 15 minute intermission between performances when guests and performers were able to enjoy concessions of homemade cookies, drinks and pizza by Domino’s Pizza in Madisonville. All funds raised in concession sales were directed toward MCC Lions Club.

The last eleven performers resumed:
Alexis Fuson, Abbey Martin, Kierra Mitchell and Briann Bardell (Pride)—Comedy/Dance
Avery Hulse (Grapevine)—Voice
Breanna McGowan (Grapevine)—Voice
Olivia Campbell (Southside)—Voice
Dayton Witherspoon (Pride)—Drums
Victoria Ward, Krisalyn Looney and Adriana Avalos (Earlington) – Voice
Jaclyn Egbert (West Hopkins)—Voice
Landon Harris (Jesse Stuart)—Piano
Vera Fischer (West Broadway)—Voice
Evan Carlton (Pride)—Voice
Claire Basham (Hanson)—Voice
 
The competition concluded with an inspirational and talented performance by local radio personality and musician/entertainer Pat Ballard with entertainer John Sheldon (A.K.A. “The Legendary Johnny Keyz”). The two men played piano and guitar and sang as entertainment while the judges deliberated over contest winners.

Judging the contest were Candace Bennet, Workforce Transitions Coordinator at MCC, Cathy Vaughn, who works in the MCC Advising and Transfer Center as Director of Counseling Services, and J’nora McCutcheon-Anderson, MCC Advisor for Educational Talent Search.
 
Winners in the competition were Landon Harris, taking 3rd Place for his Pink Panther piano performance, Vera Fischer, taking 2nd Place home for her self-written song that she also performed acapella, and Blade Byrum, taking 1st Place with his drum solo.
 
All of the performances highlighted the truly gifted and talented group of students that Hopkins County schools are rearing. Events such as the District Talent Show Series reinforce that talent and encourage each child to nurture their gifts and disciplines.
